Media and Self-Esteem

1.  Why do you think people are portrayed this way in the media?

2.  How are you affected by the images you see?  

3.  What can be done to reduce the amount of young men and women that are 

     negatively affected by these images?

4.  What would your reaction be to a magazine cover where the subject isn’t   

     all glammed up?  Is this a possible route that society should take?  Why or

     why not?

ANSWERS

1. I think that people are portrayed this way in the media to give people the idea of what they should look like. By doing this companies can sell products like make-up or clothes to people, because they think that they need it to look good.

2.I am affected by these images because it gives me the impression that people, mostly women, should look this way. 

3. I think that these companies could portray them differently and not to make them seem perfect. That way young men, like myself, and young women will not be so negatively affected. 

4. My reaction to a magazine cover like that would be "Wow, something different, i think it looks good."
